Busy Season Recap + Life Update

If you follow my blog regularly, you may have noticed that May and June were filled with nonstop weddings and photo sessions, and that in July, there's been well, nothing! My busy season packed itself into those first six weeks of May/June and left me wide open for the rest of the summer until I start weddings again in September. These last several weeks of calm have given me lots of time to think, catch up on much needed sleep, evaluate my workflow, and start working on some special projects! Josh and I both have some exciting things planned for our businesses and we can't wait to share them with you, but you're going to have to wait a little while longer!
My time off has also given me the opportunity to build relationships and volunteer at our church! Last week, we held VBS at our church and I was in charge of all the preschool crafts. I always tell people... I'm not super crafty, but if you give me an idea, I can replicate it! Thank goodness for Pinterest, Hobby Lobby, and cute cheap bins from Target that I used to organize everything!

After the last day of VBS, some of the girls from church and I drove down to Hocking Hills and went canoeing. Every time we do something like that... out in nature, especially on the water, I wonder why I don't go more often! I love all of it and it's definitely a way to escape and get re-grounded by just enjoying God's creation, laughing, and having fun with people I love. And if that weren't enough fun, yesterday we had Family Day at church. Family Day is like a carnival that we have every year the Sunday following VBS. The kids get to sing songs on stage for their parents, and we get to watch awesome recap videos from the week. This year's Family Day was the best one I've ever been to, mostly because of the water games! Inflatables are one thing, but when you add water, you enter a entirely different arena of fun. We had a giant waterslide, a dunk tank (sort of-- when the kids hit the target, a bucket of water would empty above your head!), and an inflatable slip and slide that was definitely my favorite.

Should have worn waterproof!! Yikes!! #racooneyes

It's been an amazing past few weeks filled with fun! It's weeks like this where I'm reminded that the hard work Josh and I put in every day is paying off. I know that seasons like this are rare, especially in the middle of the summer, but that's just another reminder to give it my all when things get busy so our businesses continue to grow. There are probably a lot of you reading this who are dissatisfied with your job or your business or life in general, or feeling like you're not quite "there" yet. I promise that if you take a minute, just a minute, to collect your thoughts and imagine where you want to be, you can get there. It will take hard work. It will take direction. But you can do it. In the same breath, realize that none of us are ever truly "there." Because the moment we feel like we've "arrived," our natural inclination is to slack off and that will cause us to slide backwards. The key is hustle and contentment; to always strive for something better, but also to be content and appreciate where we are now and use the opportunity to grow. If you're in a season of working extremely long hours, be thankful that you're making extra money that can help you pay bills or build your savings. If you're in between jobs, be thankful for this time to rest, and use it to rejuvenate your mind and body to prepare for the next step. If you have a steady job with good hours but you hate what you're doing, be thankful for the skills you're learning and the money you're making that will eventually help push you towards your dreams.

Be content. Hustle. I'm trying to take my own advice and keep moving forward! What are some goals that you have for the season of life you're in? I'd love to hear about it!
