A blush and gold wedding, perfectly planned from start to finish. Every last detail carefully crafted, labored over in love. It was exactly how she had imagined it would be... except for one thing. She wasn't there. Unexpectedly confined to a hospital bed the night before her very own wedding, the party went on without her. Guests ate and drank, the DJ played, the cupcakes disappeared one by one off the dessert table. But during those very moments, she and her husband-to-be made the decision to move forward with their vows. That even if the big white dress and the celebration would have to wait for another day, this day-- May 14, 2016-- would still be their wedding day.
The hospital nurses sprung into action, and before you knew it, the hospital auditorium was transformed into a worthy ceremony venue, right down to the center aisle fashioned from bed sheets. Family members traveled from the venue to the hospital and brought with them flowers and other decorations to make at least a little piece of Kacey's vision come to life. The set time for the ceremony grew near, and the room began to fill. The officiant and the bridal party lined the front of the room. Family, nurses, and other hospital staff filled the chairs. After a few tense moments of waiting, José looked up to see his bride coming towards him. The hospital bed, her bright orange sweatshirt, the nurses standing by all seemed to fade away, because she was coming towards him to say I do. Her bouquet in her lap, her father by her side, she took her place at the front of the room and married the love of her life.
Kacey and José have a unique wedding day story, one full of heartache and disappointment, but even more remarkably full of love and care. When couples are stressed out because things don't go as planned on their wedding day, I always tell them, Don't worry. At the end of the day, you'll be married-- and that's all that matters in the end. I never realized how true and literal that statement could be until I had the privilege of capturing Kacey and José's journey that day. I hope that as you scroll through this post, your heart is touched and you are reminded of the power of selfless, sacrificial love.
To be continued... because a love story like their deserves a fairytale ending.
